Opossum

The opossum puppet was an idea sparked from the large opossum that lives under the shed in our forested backyard. It loves to crawl out of its hole late in the evenings that we spot on a security camera we have mounted on the shed’s wall.

I wanted to continue to reflect that concept of childhood nostalgia and the joy embedded in the toys that I played with or even the characters I watched on tv, hence the cartoonish hand-held puppet. The opossum is completely hand made, from teeth sculpted from polymer clay and painted to be weathered. To the hand-sewn fur draped across his body.

Ultimately, this opossum puppet serves as a reminder of how the smallest encounters in our everyday lives can spark creativity and reconnect us with a sense of childhood wonder.
